Back-to-School Family Dinner: Celebrating Our Future

Today, we came together as a family, not just to share a meal, but to share love, encouragement, and support for the most important part of our legacy: our children.

As the new school year begins, we wanted to mark the moment with something special. Grilled pork chops, burgers, and good ol’ hot dogs might seem simple, but to us, they represent something bigger. They represent effort, just like our kids are about to put in at school. They represent gathering, just like school brings together friends, teachers, and learning. And most importantly, they represent love, the kind of love that says, “We see you, we believe in you, and we’re cheering for you every step of the way.”

We host these dinners not just for fun (though we have plenty of that too), but to show our children that education matters. That their hard work is seen. That their dreams are worth fighting for. These meals are our way of wrapping them in pride and saying, You’ve got this.

Education opens doors. It gives our kids the tools to dream bigger, to rise stronger, and to break cycles that may have held others back. And as a family, we believe in showing up, through food, through hugs, through words of encouragement, and through every chance we get to remind them that their success is our success too.

To all our kids heading back to school: We are proud of you. Stay curious, stay kind, and never forget how much we love you. Go out there and make this year count. Your family is behind you, grilling, cheering, and believing in you every step of the way.

I asked Shidá’í Ruben to say a few words of encouragement to the kids. All in Navajo too. So I think you will appreciate it.
